SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 19: IT’S THE THIRD SUNDAY AND PRAYER MINISTERS are available to pray with you for whatever your needs may be. The Prayer Ministers will be in the Clarke Chapel after Communion. The Prayer Ministry is a confidential, personal way to pray for your particular needs and recognize God’s presence in your life.

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 19: MEN’S MINISTRY will be meeting today, February 19, at 9:30 a.m. in the Ross Room (rescheduled from last week). Men’s Ministry normally meets the second Sunday of the month at 9:30 a.m. in the Music Director’s office. For more information, please pick up a brochure in the back of the church, or contact Artie Phills (732.247.1674) or Jonathan Gloster (301.467.4368).

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 19: TODAY’S ADULT FORUM begins a two-week series on music, led by our Director of Music, John Sheridan. Today’s topic: the entire history of western music in 30 minutes and its relationship to our music here at Christ Church. Next week: a practical overview of music in our worship. Both weeks we will listen to beautiful music, and have a chance for discussion. Hope to see you there!

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 19: APPEAL FOR COUNTERS. The Christ Church Finance team is looking for two volunteers from the parish to take on the vital ministry of counting the Sunday donations. The time commitment is only 1-1.5 hours every six weeks after the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service. Please let us know if you are interested. We will provide training. No prior finance experiencing is needed. Contact either Jonathan Gloster, Treasurer (jglostter73@gmail.com) or Eric Sanders, Asst. Treasurer (ecsand654@msn.com)

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 19: SLOGAN CONTEST! Create a slogan capturing the heart and spirit of Christ Church New Brunswick using eight words or less. The eight words must include: Christ, God and Church. The contest winner will receive a $200 American Express gift card; second and third place prizes are $100 and $50, respectively. The winning slogan will be used on bumper stickers, t-shirts and mugs. Please place your completed entry form in the box in the back of the church by next Sunday, February 26. The winners will be announced on March 19. Entry forms are available at the back of this booklet, at the back of the church, and in the February Close Call.

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 21: BOOK STUDY ON PASTRIX by Nadia Bolz-Weber concludes this Tuesday, February 21 (Chapters 15-20) at 7 p.m. in the Children’s Chapel.

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 21: ARTICLE AUTHORS, PLEASE NOTE THE NEW CLOSE CALL SCHEDULE! Beginning with the March 2017 edition, the Close Call will be going to a quarterly edition. The next newsletter deadline is Tuesday, February 21 at 9 a.m. Please submit all articles on upcoming events through May 31, 2017 to Julia Utz at closecall AT christchurchnewbrunswick.org (preferred method) or place in her mailbox in the Parish office.

WEEK OF MARCH 5-11: CHRIST CHURCH WILL BE HOSTING THE HOMELESS SHELTER. This shelter serves the needs of New Brunswick’s homeless population that exceeds the capacity of the permanent shelter during the winter months. Christ Church and seven other houses of worship have been participating in this program for over 20 years. For this to work at Christ Church we will need at least two volunteers to serve as overnight hosts—arriving at the Church around 7 p.m. and leaving the next morning. Each night there will be approximately 15 men staying in the auditorium, while the hosts spend the night in the Choir room/loft area. If you are able to fill this important ministry please contact Bob Chant at chant [at] marine.rutgers.edu or 732.586.9896. There is also a sign-up sheet in the back of the Church.

THE COFFEE HOUR HOST SIGN-UP SHEET is available next to the Nicholas Room door. Please consider serving one Sunday as a host, either individually or as a group. Hosting is simple: coffee and cups/plates, etc. are provided; the host provides juice and simple baked goods (homemade or store-bought). Please note that Coffee Hour will consist of coffee and tea only when there are no hosts signed up for a particular Sunday. For more information, please feel free to contact Beverly Stott at 732.896.4933 or bstott510{at} gmail.com.

FREE PARKING VOUCHERS are available for the Lower Church Street Parking Deck next to the church grounds. Newer vouchers also work in the Wellness Parking Deck further up Church Street. Please see an usher for a voucher and instruction sheet. Tip: To avoid problems at the gate, go to the pay-on-foot machines and use your voucher there.

SHROVE TUESDAY PANCAKE SUPPER

Shrove Tuesday is the day before Ash Wednesday, which starts Lent, and is the end of Epiphany. The name comes from the word shrive, which means to confess. It is a time to indulge in eating rich food before the penitential season of Lent, when some people “give up” a favorite for Lent.

This year, Shrove Tuesday is February 28 and the date for a Pancake Supper at Christ Church. Stop in for some delicious pancakes, with a topping bar to add some yummy extras to your stack. This buffet will be open from 5-7 p.m. for dining in or, if you are in a rush, take-out containers will be available.

The cost is $5/person, with families of four or more just $20.

If you have any questions, please contact Sheila Cooper at 732.821.6333.
