Pastoral Care

Christ Church is an engaged community committed to the well-being of its members through caring relationships and kind actions, intentionally meeting both the spiritual and life needs of the congregation. The Pastoral Care Ministries provide continuity, warmth and support both in and beyond the Sunday church service.

They offer an opportunity to fulfill the role that Jesus gave us, to love and serve our neighbors whoever and wherever they might be. Believing that we are Christ's hands and heart in the world, Christ Church’s pastoral care ministries which includes pastoral visits, Prayer Ministry, Lay Eucharistic Visitors and visits from the clergy.

Healing Prayer

Integral to the Sunday service

Are any among you suffering? They should pray. Are any cheerful? They should sing songs of praise. Are any among you sick? They should call for the elders of the church and have them pray over them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord...pray for one another, so that you may be healed (James 5: 13-16).

Gathered in the chapel during Communion on the first and third Sundays of the month, lay ministers welcome petitioners seeking prayers for themselves or others. The support of the entire church community is witnessed through the laying on of hands in the healing rite of intercession. Both ministers and petitioner share the presence of the Spirit in this profound and moving practice.

Eucharistic Visitors

For those who are homebound

The burdens of homebound illness, including separation from Sunday services and fellowship with the congregation, are eased through visits from Eucharist ministers who administer the sacrament of Holy Communion and listen to the concerns of those who are shut in.

Visits from the Clergy

Although the Rector and deacon are always on call for pastoral emergencies, they are also available for in-home visits or in-office appointments to meet with parishioners or members of the local community who are in need of an ear.

Please contact the office (admin@christchurchnewbrunswick.org or (732)545-6262) if you would like to have a visit from a clergy person.
